Solar Indra, the country's largest solar cruise boat, through Kochi backwaters
The "Indra", a solar-powered tourist boat operated by the Water Transport Department, has commenced its service. Two services are scheduled daily, each lasting two hours, navigating the scenic Kochi backwaters. With a capacity to accommodate 100 passengers, the refrigerated boat offers a comfortable journey.
Indra holds the distinction of being the longest cruise boat in the country, featuring two floors with air-conditioned facilities available on the lower deck. Constructed at a cost of Rs. 3.7 crores, the boat is equipped with a 25 KV solar power system, ensuring operations even during periods of low solar power availability.
Service timings are set for 11 am and 4 pm daily, providing passengers with an immersive experience spanning Bolgatty Palace, Vallarpadam Container Terminal, Vypin, Kamalakadav, Fort Kochi, and Willingdon Island. Ticket prices are Rs. 300 for adults and Rs. 150 for children.
